Sept/Oct 17
Our first term was extremely busy. Mr Boyle our new principal was present for our start of year mass and we also had our appreciation mass for Mrs Gertie Russell on the occasion of her retirement. It was a memorable occasion where the whole parish came out together with friends past and present to show our appreciation and gratitude for Mrs Russell.
We celebrated the European Week of sport with loads of PE activities and the whole school took part in an Active Friday where all the classes did a 10 at 10 and we walked from Mizen to Malin Head by completing 5 laps of our beautiful surroundings. Each lap was the equivalent of 100km.
We also took part in 2 school football blitzes. We reached the final of both the under 11 and under 13 North blitzes but unfortunately lost out in both games. We are very proud of our footballers though and even more so of cross country runners who bought medals galore back to the school in October. It was a day to remember where we had both team and individual medals to give out and in a special ceremony these medals were presented by our youngest children in our school to the winners.
Despite Storm Ophelia’s best efforts we were able to celebrate Halloween accordingly with our fancy dress display. All this was sandwiched between school visits to secondary schools and our whole school attending swimming in Nenagh swimming Pool for 6 weeks. It has indeed been an active and hectic 1st term and now we are gearing towards the Christmas term with loads more to look forward to.
